New Yamaha R15 v3.0 video revealed, new specs emerge

Yamaha is revered across the globe for its racing prowess reaching production motorcycles. This has been witnessed throughout its motorcycle range, even in India. The R15 in its first generation and the facelifted v2.0 were also recognised as one of the most sporty motorcycles in the 150 cc range. However, the aging design needed a heavy refresh and after the news of the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer introducing a new version of the R15 was confirmed for India, Yamaha fans have been ever eager for the motorcycle to launch in India. A recently uploaded video on social media reveals all the specifications of the new Yamaha R15 v3.0.

Powering the fully-faired motorcycle is a new 155 cc liquid cooled single-cylinder engine that has a new cylinder forged from aluminum in addition to a 5.5 litre air filter, 30 mm intake port and a higher compression ratio of 11.6:1 compared to the existing model. In addition to these new components, the Yamaha R15 v3.0’s engine also has the company’s patented Blue Core technology for better fuel combustion as well as efficiency.

The clutch system is also now an ‘Assist & Slip’ system which reduces back torque under aggressive downshifts and the clutch lever requires a lesser effort. The motorcycle is now built on a new Deltabox frame and a new 37 mm Upside Down forks upfront coupled to a monoshock at the rear. The aluminum swingarm and the lightweight cast wheels with 140 mm section of the rear tyre are a part of the package to match the powertrain’s performance and racing heritage. While the updated motorcycle will have disc brakes at both ends with a 282 mm disc brake up front, the video does not reveal the dimension of the rear disc brake or if the youngest motorcycle (in India) from the Yamaha’s R family will have ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) as standard.

Designed keeping in sync with the Yamaha R1, the R15 v3.0 has the signature ‘glaring eye’ headlamp cluster with LED Daytime Running Lamps and LED tail lamp setup. The motorcycle has already been spied at a few dealerships in Indonesia and will reach India by the end of this year. Once launched, the Yamaha R15 v3.0 is expected to go up against the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar RS200.
